So Elacestrant is a SERD, a special kind of medication actually. It’s meant to treat breast cancer where the cancer cells have these specific things called ER and HER2 . Now, how it works? It sort of ruins this ER signaling thing that the cancer cells use, and that helps shrink the tumors.

There are two doses. You can get it as 86 mg or 345 mg, and they’re in these coated tablets. Now, the dose most people take is the 345 mg one, and it’s usually taken with some food, once a day.
Each bottle has 30 pills. You can take it with food or without. Elacestrant is pretty specific.
It stops something called the estrogen receptor, which the cancer cells use. It really likes to target two types of estrogen receptors—ERα and ERβ—more than other things like SERMs or ER antagonists. In these tests before they used it on people, Elacestrant was really good at breaking down those estrogen receptors.
It took about 1.1 nM for ERα and 2.9 nM for ERβ. It’s great at working on tumors that need estrogen to grow, and it’s really good at doing its job without affecting other parts of the body. And it doesn’t kick the receptors into overdrive or anything like that, which is good.
Tests in a lab showed that it can make cancer cells commit suicide and even makes the receptors disappear inside the cell. It also worked on human breast cancer cells grown in a lab and some cancer bits that were moved into mice. They came up with the dose based on how safe and how well it works.
