Anagrelide is used to treat essential thrombocythemia. It works by stopping megakaryocytes from maturing, and those are the cells that make platelets. You get it in 0.5 mg capsules.
The usual dose is 0.5 mg, taken four times a day, and you might need to change it up a bit. Swallow the capsule with a glass of water at mealtime, unless it makes your tummy hurt, then you can take it on an empty stomach. Make sure to swallow the capsule whole.
Don’t crush or chew it, or you’ll mess up the protective coating. You’ll find the drug in bottles with 100 capsules each. You might feel tired, dizzy, or have headaches, or feel like throwing up, belly pain, or diarrhea.
Check the package for a full list of warnings and stuff to watch out for. You might need to tweak the dose by 0.5 mg a day, starting a week or so after you start, to keep your platelet count stable and to avoid any bad reactions. Don’t take anagrelide if you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
We don’t know how safe it is for those groups. Always talk to your doc before you start this stuff.
